Since the 80s, the Ministry of Justice has supported, in a committed and continuous manner, the other Ministries, its peers, and the Justice sector in general, in the Portuguese Speaking Countries, taking into account the existence of a common language and a similar legal matrix. Throughout these years, the main guidelines of the bilateral cooperation have been based on:
Support to legislative reforms and to the edition of Codes;
Legal-technical counselling to the Ministries of Justice, to the courts and to several other areas such as criminal investigation, prisons and the registry and notary offices;
Initial and additional training to judges and prosecutors as well as to other court officials;
Training to high ranking officials and to the technical and administrative staff in the Justice area;
Supply of legal libraries and of specific equipment.
